Primary Care Center

Bertrand Chaffee Hospital is proud to offer Primary Care Services. Opened in October 2010, our dedicated staff serves the community and provides patients and families with friendly and informative visits. 

We are currently accepting new patients from most major insurances. We are located on the third floor of Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, and look forward to continuing to serve the greater Springville area.

Currently the Bertrand Chaffee Hospital Primary Care Center has four physicians, two nurse practitioners and three physician assistants. 

In December 2013, Bertrand Chaffee Hospital welcomed Dr. Edwin Heidelberger to its active medical staff. Dr. Heidelberger, known by his patients as “The Country Doctor,” has been a resident of the Springville community for almost 20 years and is very excited about being back in the area to see former and new patients at the Bertrand Chaffee Hospital Primary Care Center.

Dr. Heidelberger obtained his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences concurrent with a PhD in physiology. After completing a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the State University of New York at Buffalo, he became board certified in pediatrics and internal medicine.

Dr. Edwin Heidelberger has recently been appointed Vice President of Medical Affairs (VPMA) of Bertrand Chaffee Hospital. As VPMA, Dr. Heidelberger will act as a liaison between the medical staff, administration and the hospital’s board of directors. One of his primary responsibilities will be to coordinate clinical activities and resources of the hospital in ways that will enhance efficiency in delivering quality healthcare while emphasizing patient safety.

Dr. Timothy Siepel is originally from Angola and did his medical training at University at Buffalo Medical School. He has lived in West Valley since 1972. Dr. Siepel has worked as a family medicine physician since 1972 in various offices including his own practice, Service Medical in Springville, until 2009. 

Since then he has been seeing patients in Derby and is very excited to be returning to the Springville community.



Dr. Jacqueline Shanahan began her medical career as an emergency medical technician while earning her bachelor of science in biology degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo. From there, she earned a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Following training through the United States Army Health Professions scholarship program, Dr. Shanahan completed her family medicine internship and residency at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Ga. She was a primary care physician for new recruits and active duty soldiers, along with roles as medical director and physician coordinator. Dr. Shanahan also served as the primary care physician for the Warrior Transition Unit (WTU) at Ft. Sill, Okla. The WTU serves wounded, ill and injured soldiers who require extensive rehabilitative services and/or complex medical care.

Dr. Shanahan is a board-certified family physician through the American Board of Family Medicine, and holds medical licenses through the states of New York and Georgia. She will see patients of all ages at the Bertrand Chaffee Hospital Primary Care Center. 

Dr. William Wnuk earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Canisius College and his doctorate in medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo’s School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He completed his residency in internal medicine-pediatrics at SUNY Buffalo, and is certified in cardiac stress testing, pediatric advanced life support and advanced cardiac life support. 

Dr. Wnuk was appointed BCH Primary Care Center Medical Director in August 2016, focusing on quality assurance and collaboration with hospital services.

Laurie Brown-Croyts, NP is a board certified Adult Nurse Practitioner who earned her master's degree in nursing from Kent State University in 2010.

She is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Youngstown State University.  Laurie is also doctorally trained having earned a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from West Virginia University. 

She looks forward to seeing adult patients and has a special interest in Geriatrics. Laurie is originally from Buffalo, NY and is excited about serving the Springville community at the Bertrand Chaffee Hospital Primary Care Center.

Lauralee Sprague, NP grew up in Sardinia and Machias, and currently resides in the area. She graduated from SUNY Brockport with a bachelor of science in nursing, and from D’Youville College with a master’s and certification as a family nurse practitioner (FNP).

Sprague has been in the healthcare field for more than 20 years, six of them as a registered nurse, and 15 of them as a family nurse practitioner. She is board certified in family practice, certified in ACLS, PALS, and BLS, and has experience in emergency medicine and family medicine.

Melissa Fanton, PA specializes in family medicine, and has a master’s in physician assistant studies from Daemen College. She has been practicing as a physician assistant since 2006. She belongs to the New York State Society of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and is certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. 


Ken Osborn, PA specializes in internal medicine, and earned his degree at Albany Medical College. He has been practicing as a physician assistant since 1987. He belongs to the New York State Society of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and is certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. 



Doug Rowe, PA specialized in family medicine and has experience in urology, cardiology, emergency medicine and urgent care.  He earned his bachelor's degree as a physician assistant from University of Oklahoma and his master's degree in advanced physician assistant studies from the University of Nebraska.  He has been practicing as a physician assistant since 1994, where he was trained in the United States Army, had two combat tours and retired a lieutenant colonel.  He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and is certified with honors through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
